CFA IMC study resources
A single starting point for CFA IMC study: how Unit 1 and Unit 2 differ, what each one punishes and which guide to read next.

This page maps the Qualifico guides for the CFA UK Investment Management Certificate. The IMC is two units that feel different to study, so the guide you need depends on which one you are sitting first.
How the two units fit together
The IMC is a CFA UK Level 4 certificate and both units must be passed unless an exemption applies. Unit 1, The Investment Environment, covers financial markets and institutions, ethics and professionalism, regulation, legal concepts, client advice and UK taxation. Unit 2, Investment Practice, covers quantitative methods, economics, accounting, asset classes, portfolio management, investment products and performance measurement. CFA UK lists Unit 1 as 85 questions with 100 learning hours and Unit 2 as 105 questions with 140. Exams use standard multiple choice, item sets and gap-fill.
How the IMC exams work has the detail, and Unit 1 compared with Unit 2 covers why they need different revision.
The preparation challenge
Unit 1 looks less technical than Unit 2 and is not. It rewards precision about which rule applies, to whom and when, and the errors tend to sound like knowing the topic but confusing the rule. Suitability and appropriateness, client categories and similar regulatory bodies are the pairs that cost marks, and they are fixed by practising the trigger rather than rereading the chapter.
Unit 2 is broader and more calculation-led. Quantitative methods, economics and accounting hold up the later investment topics, so weakness there makes asset classes and portfolio management harder than they need to be. CFA UK states that formulas are not provided in IMC examinations, so formula recall cannot be left to the final week. A calculated figure you cannot interpret is not yet exam-ready.
Both units are tied to a syllabus version. The cycle runs from 1 December to 30 November and each version has a matching Official Training Manual, so inherited notes can quietly point at the wrong edition.

Guides by unit
Unit 1: what Unit 1 tests and regulation, ethics and professionalism explained, which is the harder half for anyone more comfortable with markets than rules.
Unit 2: what Unit 2 tests and investment practice, asset classes and calculations, which covers the calculation and interpretation layer.
Study planning and current sources
A practical IMC study plan splits the two units and moves you into questions early, and studying around work turns it into a routine that survives a job. Before either, check what has changed in the syllabus, because regulation and tax content moves between versions and old notes are the most common source of wasted revision.
How Qualifico supports IMC study
Qualifico is a practice layer alongside the CFA UK syllabus and Official Training Manual, covering both units rather than one. Guided practice explains each answer as you go, mock exam mode is timed and withholds the result, and flashcards and true or false recall suit Unit 1 rules in short sessions. Topic performance by unit is the useful part: a weak Unit 2 score can hide a formula recall problem, an accounting interpretation problem or a fixed income terminology problem, and those need different fixes.
The IMC is assessed by objective questions throughout, so Written Response practice does not apply to either unit.
Keep the official sources open
CFA UK remains the authority on examinable content. Work from the current syllabus for your unit and the matching Official Training Manual, and treat mock exams as a guide to question style rather than a substitute, because CFA UK notes that a mock covers only part of the learning outcomes.
Where to go next
If you have chosen a unit, open its guide above and confirm the syllabus version before you buy or borrow any materials. If you have not chosen, Unit 1 compared with Unit 2 is the better first read, and a practical IMC study plan turns whichever you pick into a weekly routine.
