ACCA Taxation (TX-UK): exam guide and how to prepare
A complete guide to ACCA TX, and the practice built specifically for it.
How you'll prepare for ACCA TX with Qualifico
You practise from the start rather than after the reading. Every answer is scored against the subtopic it came from, so your dashboard shows where the marks are actually going long before a mock does. Written answers come back marked against that question's own mark scheme, so the feedback is about what you wrote.
We take a data-driven approach to ACCA TX and keep expanding the material behind it, with every question and lesson reviewed by an ACCA-qualified accountant.

What does ACCA TX-UK test?
Taxation – United Kingdom (TX-UK) is the UK Taxation paper at the Applied Skills stage of the ACCA Qualification. It tests applying UK tax rules to individuals, companies and transactions across the main taxes. Objective questions plus longer computation and explanation tasks.
The main examinable areas are:
the UK tax system and administration
income tax and National Insurance
capital gains tax
inheritance tax
corporation tax
VAT
Use the official syllabus and examinable documents for your sitting. ACCA has announced a redesigned qualification from 2027, so the current paper structure and transition rules must be rechecked before a later sitting.
What makes ACCA TX-UK challenging?
TX feels detailed because small facts can change a computation. Dates, ownership, residence, employment status, company periods, relief conditions and payment deadlines may all matter. The exam rewards organised workings and careful use of the tax information provided.
The practical challenge in TX is choosing the right structure before calculating. Dates, status, ownership, accounting periods and variant rules can all change the answer. Highlight these facts early so the computation follows the scenario rather than memory alone.
studying from old tax rates or the wrong variant
memorising rules without practising full computations
missing dates and conditions in the scenario
not distinguishing tax calculation, compliance and advice requirements
Most preparation for ACCA TX is reading-led. You work through the material, feel like you have covered it, and still cannot say which topics would cost you marks tomorrow. Passive review hides weak areas instead of exposing them, and by the time a mock finds them there is rarely time left to fix them.
Qualifico is built the other way round. Practice comes first, progress is tracked subtopic by subtopic and written answers are marked against the question's own mark scheme, so the next study block goes where it will change your score. If time is the constraint, how to study for ACCA around work sets out how to fit that around a working week.

How to prepare for ACCA TX-UK
A sensible study order
Start with the structure of your chosen tax system, then learn personal tax, company tax, gains, indirect taxes and administration in a logical order. Keep separate pages for rules that are easy to confuse and always update them against the correct ACCA material for your sitting.
Study TX with a current variant checklist. Keep separate templates for each major tax area, then practise mixed computations so you learn how the taxes interact. Update rate-bearing or rule-specific notes only from official materials for the sitting.
You do not have to build that order yourself. Qualifico maps ACCA TX to 37 guided lessons, one for every subtopic, in syllabus order, and tracks a syllabus-covered figure so you can see how much ground you have genuinely worked through rather than how much you have read.
How to use question practice
Practise computations with clean workings. Label each part, show the relief or rate used and review why an item was included or excluded. For written parts, answer the advice requested rather than dumping every rule you know about the tax. For the computation-level traps, how to pass ACCA TX goes further.
Official resources, including the Study Hub and Practice Platform, are the place to rehearse the exam environment. Qualifico tells you which topics are costing you marks before you get there.
Qualifico gives you both modes of this. A relaxed set while you are still learning, where you see the explanation as you go, and a timed practice exam that locks each answer and marks at the end, which is the one that tells you whether you can work at exam pace. Constructed answers are marked against that question's own mark scheme, with a model answer beside yours, so you can see the specific points you missed rather than guessing from a specimen.
How to review weak areas
If you are weak in TX, first check whether the problem is technical knowledge, layout or attention to detail. Reworking a computation under time pressure is useful only after you understand the rule and can explain why it applies.
Track TX errors by tax area, date/status issue and computation layout. If the error came from old or uncertain rules, check the official variant material before adding it to your notes.
This is exactly what the Qualifico statistics tab does, so you do not have to keep the log yourself. Every answer is scored against the subtopic it came from, giving you a topic breakdown you can open down to subtopic level, a predicted score set against the pass mark, and a comparison against the profile of a candidate who passed. A progress chart shows whether a weak area is actually recovering, and a weekly report lands whether or not you remember to review. See what that looks like for ACCA TX.
