How you'll prepare for PMP with Qualifico

You practise from the start rather than after the reading. Every answer is scored against the subtopic it came from, so your dashboard shows where the marks are actually going long before a mock does.

We take a data-driven approach to PMP and keep expanding the material behind it for this exam.

About the PMP exam

The Project Management Professional exam tests whether an experienced project leader can make sound decisions across predictive, agile and hybrid ways of working. PMI updated it on 9 July 2026, so preparation needs the current Examination Content Outline rather than a course built for the previous one.

If you are still choosing between PMI certifications, PMP vs CAPM explains the difference in eligibility and content.

Exam at a glance
  • Questions: 180, of which 10 are unscored pretest questions.

  • Time: 240 minutes, with two 10-minute breaks.

  • Item types: multiple-choice with single or multiple responses, drag-and-drop and matching, point-and-click hotspots, pull-down lists, graphic-based questions and case studies.

  • Delivery: at a Pearson VUE test centre or online with a proctor. Matching and pull-down items appear only in the test-centre exam.

What does the PMP exam test?

Three domains: People 33%, Process 41% and Business Environment 26%. The biggest change in July 2026 was Business Environment, which rose from 8% to 26%. PMI's summary of the update also highlights AI, sustainability, stakeholder engagement and a sharper focus on outcomes and value.

  • People covers leadership, team performance, conflict and stakeholder engagement. A communication problem is rarely solved by sending more information.

  • Process covers planning, delivering, monitoring and adapting the work. The right response depends on whether the team is following a plan or learning in short cycles.

  • Business Environment covers why the project exists: benefits, value, organisational change and external constraints such as regulation and sustainability.

What makes the PMP exam challenging?

Most questions offer several actions that would all be sensible at some point in a project. Only one fits this situation, at this moment, for this role. Read the delivery approach, your authority and whether the question asks for the first step, the next step or the best overall response.

Keep close distinctions sharp: a risk and an issue, a change request and an approved change, consulting a stakeholder and escalating. Answer from the facts given, not from how your own organisation would handle it.

A scenario to practise with

A sponsor asks for an additional feature after hearing customer feedback, and the question asks what the project manager should do next. Before choosing, note what the scenario tells you: is the project predictive or agile, has the change been assessed, who has authority to approve it, and does it affect the intended benefits?

Promising the feature at once commits the team before anyone understands the cost. Rejecting it outright ignores feedback that may add value. The stronger answers route the request through the appropriate assessment for that delivery approach. When you review it, write the fact that makes each rejected option premature, incomplete or outside the project manager's authority.

How to prepare for the PMP exam

Check your materials against the July 2026 outline task by task, and fill the gaps, which are most likely to be in Business Environment. Then practise scenario questions from early on, reviewing why the most tempting wrong option fails, and keep an error log of missing knowledge, wrong approach, wrong sequence and misread instructions.

Rehearse the item types separately using PMI's own examples, because a standard question bank cannot. Plan your timing around the breaks: the first comes after the case-study section and the second roughly midway through the remaining questions, and once a break starts you cannot return to the section before it. Across the exam, that is about 80 seconds per question. How to study for the current PMP exam sets out a full approach.

How Qualifico supports the PMP exam

Qualifico provides PMP practice questions and flashcards for the knowledge and decision-making behind every item type. It does not reproduce drag-and-drop, hotspots, pull-down lists or the case-study interface, so pair it with PMI's official practice for those formats. A Qualifico practice set is not a simulation of the full exam.

Eligibility and certification

PMP requires experience leading projects within the last ten years, with the amount depending on education:

  • secondary education: 60 months;

  • associate's degree or vocational trade school diploma: 48 months;

  • bachelor's degree or higher: 36 months;

  • degree from a PMI Global Accreditation Center programme: 24 months.

You also need 35 hours of project management training, or an active CAPM. From 1 December 2026, live training only counts if delivered by a PMI Authorized Training Partner, a China Registered Education Provider or an eligible accredited academic programme. Qualifico practice does not count towards these hours. PMP holders maintain the certification with 60 professional development units every three years.

Official resources and next step

Use PMI's current outline, eligibility pages and official exam preparation. If you do not yet meet the experience requirement, the CAPM exam guide covers PMI's entry-level certification.
